The James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present "The Mountaintop," a thought-provoking play by Katori Hall, reimagines the final night of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life. The Grayslake show offers a glimpse into his inner struggles and reflections on the eve of his assassination. The play takes place on April 3, 1968, after Dr. King delivers his historic "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech in Memphis, Tennessee. Exhausted but determined, King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel, where he encounters a mysterious stranger named Camae.
